Cultural properties of Aga Town

Located between the Aizu and Echigo districts and being part of Aizu for over 700 years from the Heian period (794 - 1185), Aga Town, Higashikanbara County has been growing as its history and culture continue. Also, the climate of Mother Nature, which works havoc at times while also providing rich grace, has been shaping the manners and customs of Higashikanbara County.

Aga Town now has a total of 72 cultural properties: 8 national designations (3 structures, 2 historic sites, 2 national treasures and 1 special natural treasure), 10 prefecture designations (1 structure, 3 sculptures, 1 artifact, 1 art skill, 1 manner and custom, 1 historic site and 2 natural treasures) and 54 municipal designations (2 paintings, 17 sculptures, 2 artifacts, 1 ancient manuscript, 1 historical record, 1 folk entertainment, 1 tangible folkway, 10 historic sites and 18 natural treasures).
