Over 530 potholes are on the left bank of the Agano River about 500m downstream from Agekawa Dam.
These pot shaped holes were created in the rocks in the riverbed and on the riverside.
The rapid stream of the meandering Agano River eroded the river terrace made of tuff, leaving holes that small stones entered and the swirling current rotated around and around, enlarging the round holes and creating the Yazawa Potholes.
The size and depth of the holes vary and are in different shapes including circles, ovals and a row of beads.
(Note) This area cannot be entered because the dam above may discharge water here.
